HP Offers 3 New Affordable Monitors

While all the large and costly LCD displays are good to look at, most people couldn’t afford them, and with that in mind, HP presumably has something fresh to offer you. The company is planning to release trio new low-powered monitors, the 20-inch S2031, 21.5-inch S2231 as well as the 23-inch S2331.

These displays come with VGA and DVI-D connections, a 1000:1contrast ratio and so on. The HP 20-inch S2031 monitor will sport a 1600 x 900 display and a brightness of 250 nits, while the other two models will sport a full HD 1080p resolution with 300 nits. (more…)

iPads Make Information a Distraction

Although before his inauguration U.S. President Barack Obama was rarely seen without his BlackBerry, he has criticized the current crop of popular consumer gadgets for helping make information a “distraction.”

The context of his comments is important; Obama was talking about the importance of education and Thomas Jefferson’s realization that citizens must stay informed to make a democracy work. If quoted out of context, though, his comments might not be too popular with freedom of speech advocates — or gadget lovers, for that matter.

“You’re coming of age in a 24/7 media environment that bombards us with all kinds of content and exposes us to all kinds of arguments, some of which don’t always rank all that high on the truth meter,” the AFP reports Obama saying during a talk at Hampton University in Virginia.

“With iPods and iPads and Xboxes and PlayStations — none of which I know how to work — information becomes a distraction, a diversion, a form of entertainment, rather than a tool of empowerment, rather than the means of emancipation.”

Obama, arguably the most social media savvy of all U.S. presidents, went on to suggest that the traction gained by the “craziest claims” from blogs and talk radio outlets is “putting new pressures on our country and on our democracy.”

What do you think? Is Obama right to highlight how hard it can be to differentiate disreputable sources from the responsible ones (unless you’re really media savvy)? Are iPads, iPods, Xbox 360s and PlayStation 3s making the problem worse, or is he finding causation where none exists? Have your say in the comments section below.

Android 2.2 “Froyo” to Wed USB Tethering, WiFi Hotspot Utility

Google acquired a plastic desert sculpture of an iced yogurt outside their Android building today, showing the expected arrival of the future version of the Android O S, Android 2.2, AKA Froyo.

As well as full Flash support also a whopper of a speed progression, we have just certified something that is even more amazing. Froyo would have built in USB tethering so you could share your data connection with your laptop, something Apple also AT&T still have not managed to authorize in the United State.

And even better: you cοuld turn your Android phone intο a pοrtable wifi hotspot as well. Yοu could see the tethering & wifi hotspot features in the screenshots abοve. One thing that isn’t clear frοm the details we have gοt is whether carriers can turn this feature οff, οr even charge fοr it, unless they break out frοm the standard Android form.

PlayStation Update 3.30 firmware

Once the PlayStation blog said firmware 3.3,  you realize, one that “preps” the console for added 3D support.  Sony PlayStation has officially detailed PS3 firmware 3.30 on the official PlayStation blog, set to hit the console “shortly” and officially make it the only console to take advantage of new stereoscopic 3D technology.  There’s nothing you can use with the third dimension at this point, but take solace in a few Trophy enhancements.

The PS3 Update 3.30 comes with lots of exciting features like Trophy improvements and support for 3D HDTV to help you play 3D games at home.  Take note that it’s not full 3D support for example your PS3 console is not yet ready for anyone soon-to-come Sony Bravia 3D television sets.  Sony says that full 3D support is departing from inside following weeks.
